Broadway Musicals
Broadway is a boulevard full of famous theatres where visitors from all over the world gather to watch the top musicals of the season and other great plays. The avenue is also famous for being the only street that runs through Manhattan at an oblique angle.
Broadway is one of New York’s most famous avenues, known as the heart of the American theatre industry since it's the only oblique street that crosses the city center. It runs from the City Hall to the Bronx.
Broadway’s most important attraction is Times Square, which cuts 7th Avenue. Times Square’s surroundings provide the most important leisure and cultural offerings, with nearly 40 theatres.
Broadway Musicals and Shows
There are three types of shows: On-Broadway, Off-Broadway, and Off-Off Broadway. The On-Broadway offers the most famous musicals and theatres worldwide, Off-Broadway is less well-known, and so on.
Most Popular Broadway Shows
Some of most successful musicals include The Lion King, Wicked, Les Misérables, The Phantom of the Opera, Chicago, and Aladdin. If you're traveling with children, the most entertaining ones are The Lion King and Aladdin.
If you would like to book tickets for any of the ones mentioned above, especially The Lion King, we recommend getting the tickets as soon as possible. If you can, two months in advance.
Broadway Tickets
You have two options: buying them online or in New York City.
Buying tickets online
The advantages are numerous:
- Getting to choose the day you prefer to see the musical. The best musicals are quickly sold-out, so getting them online is an easy way of making sure you get the tickets for the day you prefer.
- Booking the best seats: When you buy a ticket last minute in the ticket office, you most likely won’t get to choose your seat. By buying them online a little before, you’ll be able to get the best seats available.
- Avoid lines to buy tickets. If you buy your ticket online, you'll skip the lines, which are sometimes two hours long.
- Lastly, the tickets are cheaper online than if you buy them at the ticket office.

TKTS
Located in Times Square, TKTS is a shop where you can get tickets for same-day musicals at reduced prices. There are usually long queues, there aren’t always seats for the musicals you want to see and the seats are not always very good.
If you want to see the most famous musicals, such as Billy Elliot or The Lion King, TKTS is not an option as it doesn’t sell tickets for the most popular shows.
TKTS is a good option for tourists that would like to see a Broadway show without having any preferences.
