Imagine going to the opera at one of the most emblematic venues in New York. Be captivated by the tenors and sopranos at the majestic Metropolitan Opera House.
A Night at the Opera
The most important music venue in New York is undoubtedly the Metropolitan Opera House. On this stage, you'll see and hear the incredible talent of some of the world's best sopranos, tenors and basses.
Founded in 1883, New York's Metropolitan Opera offers operas sung in Italian, English and French, as well as other performing arts. There's no experience that compares in the Big Apple.
La Traviata
Young Violetta and her hapless lover Alfredo star in this Italian opera based in the 18th century. The staging, characters and romantic atmosphere will make this a night to remember. For just over three hours, you'll follow the tragic love story of these two characters and get caught up in the emotion of one of the greatest operas of all times. In fact, when Julia Robert's character was sobbing watching the opera in Pretty Woman, she was watching this exact performance!
Language
Operas are generally performed in their original language, in this case, Italian. However, the Metropolitan offers 'Met Titles' which are simultaneous translations into English available on the seat backs or other personal screens so that you can follow the meaning. You can turn these screens off if you prefer and be taken away by the beauty of the singing.
